'People are afraid' - why 'juggernaut' Arsenal are the side to defeat.

The proof is unmistakable why Arsenal have become many people's preferred choice to win the Premier League during this term.

Look at their performances against West Ham and Crystal Palace compared to those identical matches in the previous campaign.

The Gunners have beaten all of them during this campaign, but lost 10 points across those games as they dropped off in the title race last season.

Defensive Dominance

Arsenal's defensive solidity is a primary factor why they are looking well positioned to at last realize their title ambition.

They lead the league for clean sheets (6), goals conceded (3), shots faced (72), quality opportunities against (19) and xGA (5.3).

The center-back duo of Gabriel and William Saliba is arguably the strongest in the league, with Arsenal recording a clean sheet in six of their first nine games.

Set-Piece Proficiency

Their danger from dead balls is highly documented, but rival sides still struggle to stop the Gunners from these chances.

They have scored 11 times from set-pieces in the league, several additional than any other side, with 69% of their goals originating from these situations.

"Arsenal can perform multiple roles now. The whole team has a intimidation presence. People are just afraid of them and it is wonderful to see."

Championship Credentials

What is especially remarkable about Arsenal's beginning to the campaign is they have also faced Manchester United, Liverpool and Newcastle United on the road and Manchester City on home turf - and are still ahead by four points at the top.

While they maintain victories, their long-standing opponents are struggling. This marks the premier instance at this juncture of the season since 1992 that none of Manchester City and United, Liverpool or Chelsea are in the Premier League top four.

The scrutiny was on head coach Mikel Arteta at the start, having invested around £250m on eight summer acquisitions in pursuit of that elusive first title since 2004.

But the investment has so far yielded results in style, with his side one of the most prolific attacks in the league and having the most resilient defense, despite numerous injuries.

  • Unbreached games in three straight Premier League games
  • Over six hours without letting in a goal
  • Only a handful of concessions in 12 games across all competitions

Former players and pundits have described Arteta's men as a "powerhouse, looking difficult to stop" with the whole club now operating with confidence and determination.
