The Iconic Puzzle Game Couldn't Win at This Gaming Ceremony — A New Category Might Solve This

Whenever a major honors show draws close, you'll find a demand for the addition additional classifications to recognize unsung work and fill the hearts of followers dedicated to specific genres.

My colleague has already made advocating for terror-themed awards. That would be fantastic. So would strategy board titles, representing a dedicated supporter's campaign. However, I must insist when I prioritize because like all single-minded supporters, there's a strong justification supporting my request remains most pressing above others. Here's the proposal: It's essential to create a classification for brain-teasing titles.

The Genre Classification Challenge

Organizing artistic expressions isn't exact; it remains highly personal, and inevitably start arguments and end in fuzzy definitions. There’s a reason film award organizations avoid this approach. Yet it remains an unavoidable compromise for the industry of video games, showing incredible range it's challenging to consider them as a single art form.

For the full spectrum of interactive entertainment excellence to be recognized, and for games of all stripes to receive proper recognition, specific award classifications remain vital.

Current Gaming Award Categories

Prominent interactive entertainment events offer these award types recognizing Action, Action/Adventure, RPG experiences, Fighting, Sim/Strategy, plus athletic and racing experiences. Together, these classifications effectively encompass a lot of ground, and you can find room for most games within them.

Not so for brain-teasing titles. There’s simply nowhere for their placement. Consider three of this year’s best games, each quite distinct: structural challenges in a particular game, intense tile-matching in a different title, engaging interpersonal challenges of a third title. Where could they possibly go between these six categories? Simply put, no category fits.

The Representation Problem

Many instances occur outstanding logic titles published annually without proper recognition during gaming ceremonies, unless they happen to qualify award groups including Handheld titles, VR/AR Game, and the highly challenging independent game categories.

  • A renowned logic title received no recognition completely during that awards season
  • A different innovative game received no nominations that year
  • Popular arranging title received no acknowledgment in 2021
  • Only a few logic titles scraped into independent or mobile categories

Importance of Logic Titles

Commonly they're modest productions, but the art of the puzzle game holds tremendous importance. Well-known matching games stand as the most-played games globally continuing this trend for over a decade.

The famous puzzle experience challenges popular creative games claiming status as most purchased experience; it’s also in the running as greatest title ever. Puzzle games are foundational to the art of video games, while interacting with diverse game types.

Proposal and Rationale

Puzzle games wouldn’t have this problem. One could readily select multiple candidates interesting, varied, worthy titles every year with ease — actually, with challenge, because you’d have to leave many worthy titles.

Restating the point, these represent titles without proper classification at major gaming awards. Logic title developers function at the demanding boundary interactive creation, producing among the purest expressions within interactive entertainment. Just like movie stunt professionals, they warrant appreciation. Let’s not keep them waiting 35 years.
